This is a painting, guys. A black and white painting. I think it is absolutely incredible. I'm pretty sure I'd love it if it were not black and white--the composition is so elegant and serene. But the fact that it is black and white, too, is just astounding to me.
It's clearly in the school of Vermeer and indeed, it was painted by the Danish artist Vilhelm Hammershøi in 1899, and specifically evokes Vermeer. It sold at Sotheby's--breaking numerous records--for $2.67 million, almost three times the asking price. And I love it. (HT: The Courtier)
