Ecce Ancilla Domini

I think I post this every year on the Feast of the Annunciation. Well, one can never listen to it too much.  Whenever I am really really really stressed out, I put this on, lie down on the floor, and sit perfectly still for all seven minutes and twenty-eight seconds. The floor is important; you don't want to be comfortable, or fall asleep. I suppose you could sit on a hard chair, but I find I always fidget. On the floor you can be still without being necessarily comfortable. And then let this sublime music pour over you, and swell your heart with gratitude for the amazing mercy of God.  (Purchase the Chanticleer recording here.)

The text is that of the ancient prayer, the Angelus:

Angelus Domini nuntiavit Mariae. // The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary
Et concepit de Spiritu Sancto. // And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Ave Maria, gratia plena; Dominus tecum: benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui Iesus. // Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Ecce ancilla Domini. // Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
Fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum. // Be it done unto me according to Thy word.

Ave Maria... // Hail Mary ...

Et Verbum caro factum est, // And the Word was made Flesh
Et habitavit in nobis. // And dwelt among us.

Ave Maria... // Hail Mary ...
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. // Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
