There are some jazz tunes that I never really liked as a child, but that grew on me over the years. I think in some respect they were too sophisticated for my sensibility. I liked happy tunes and carefree love songs because I was young, and happy, and wanted (but not desperately wanted) to be carefree and in love.
But life catch up with you, and you hear an old tune that you used to fast forward on the cassette, but you listen this time (now on CD), and really love it. Autumn Leaves, by Johnny Mercer, is just such a tune for me. I am surprised at how long it takes for me to get tired of this tune.
