Our Lady of Fatima Novena. He is doing very well--the initial surgery was successful, with every new dawn there is less and less danger of neurological problems. Subsequent surgery to remove a blood clot from his lung went well too. So far he has received 23 liters of blood which is just shocking, and makes me want to run off to a blood bank and donate. He continues to improve, but has a long long road ahead.
They have written again and again about how grateful they are for God's mercy, and how palpable are the effects of the prayers of their friends, family, and, yes, total strangers. C.S. Lewis once said (in a letter quoted in A Severe Mercy): "It is a sweet duty, praying for our friends...perhaps it is a meeting, and the best kind." If that is so then it is even sweeter to pray for total strangers, and I am grateful beyond words.
Lord have mercy on us, and on the whole world.
