Block Prints for Japan
The response of small designers, artists and bloggers to the disaster relief efforts in Japan has been truly phenomenal. These woodblock kitchen prints are the first images, however, that really took my breath away. A traditional Japanese art form, their graphic simplicity, and their celebration of traditional Japanese ingredients give me so much joy. Berkeley based artist Rigel Stuhmiller has obtained a number of matching grants from private donors, so that for each $45 print you purchase 500% of profits go to Save The Children's efforts to help Japanese tsunami victims. Check them all out, as well as Stuhmiller's other amazing work here. (The turnips are my favorites.)
UPDATE: My mom just posted about some beautiful needlepoint canvasses for sale that also benefit Japan.
