This will be a quick Clippings, as I have had NO TIME this week for anything but work and commuting and making jam. My "to read" count on Google Reader is in the high 500s...
+ This post by Molly Wizenberg about learning to love a strange food (oysters) is just wonderful. Classic. About food, and love, and zeal for life: a must read.
+ When I buy my next car, it will be a basket car. So unbelievably cool.
+ Erin of the design blog Elements of Style did a photo tour of one of my favorite Napa wineries, Frog's Leap. beautiful AND delicious!
+ A new Chicago Manual of Style (via Maud Newton).
Clearly, the story of the week/month/year is the successful rescue of the Chilean miners (above). I have nothing to add to the copious commentary, but I did like everything in the Anchoress' roundup. It should also be noted that every article I read brought me to tears. I'm not even kidding. There are no words to express the creativity, courage, faith, resourcefulness, determination, humility, and perseverance of these men--and of everyone who helped and waited and sent technology and man-power etc. etc.
Ok, maybe there are words...taken from our Saint of the day, Theresa of Avila:
"Christ has no body now, but yours.
No hands, no feet on earth, but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which
Christ looks compassion into the world.
Yours are the feet
with which Christ walks to do good.
Yours are the hands
with which Christ blesses the world."
