Three Hours to Kill? "Ran" is on Hulu!

No "Golden Hour" this week.  I've had altogether too much sun and am totally sick of it.  Anyway, this is just a quick note, because I am not going to be blogging next week.  I have FINALLY gotten a new computer, and will be taking time next week to set everything up and maybe make some small changes to the blog.  See you July 19th.  In the meantime:

Did you miss Ran when it was touring the country as we celebrate Kurosawa's Centennial?  Well, you can watch the film on Hulu.  Also in summer viewing, my favorite Steve Martin comedy of the 80's: Roxanne.  Please note, also, that these two films are based off two masterpieces of literature: King Lear and Cyrano De Bergerac.

Also, DC types, my second favorite Kurosawa film, Dersu Uzala, is showing the 10th, 12th and 13th at AFI. Dersu Uzala is about a Russian explorer and his guide, and their remarkable, strange, lovely friendship.  It is charming in a graceful wondrous way.  And, since it takes place almost entirely in the snowy plains of Mongolia Siberia, it could be a welcome respite from the heat. For more details and to get tickets, go here.
